Back to nature

Early spring morning

During the observation of this morning chaos, I’m thinking about statistics: I count cars and I’m thinking about how many drive daily along this road, how many toxic fumes go into the air and our lungs. “Back to nature,” I think. This idea is additionally supported by a radio ad, in which the client invites for a complete holiday comfort in a large hotel complex with 700 rooms, 5 swimming pools, with concrete tennis courts.

Afternoon

We sit at a family lunch. The children came from school, we and my husband have already completed work responsibilities. Hurray! We have overcome all obstacles, including roads, and have done all of our “duties” so far. But only for that day, which was one of the few when we did not have more “flying” from activity to activity to do.

The husband begins to talk about an interesting topic we all love at lunch. “March is already here. We will have to start thinking about summer vacation. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to go this year? First, we coordinate the location: the sea, the mountains, a lake … Then also the way of vacation: hotel, tent, apartment … “

“Back to nature,” the statement comes flying out of me quicker than any of the other three can say anything. Thereby, I see in front of my eyes the metal column from the morning, wrapped into smog and soaked in stench. All three look at me and wait for me to continue. So I begin to explain to them and list reasons, why it would be ideal: peace, quiet, the noise of car motors will be replaced by a singing competition of the cicadas, and the crowds on a kilometre long beach or racing to get recliners by the chair, by the natural shade under a pine, with a towel on a bed of wonderfully smelling pine needles …

We will go out together for animation and evening entertainment for the guests here and there, but mostly we will replace them with social games, conversation, laughter … This way we will strengthen family ties, get to know each other, strengthen general communication skills, learn about dreams, ideas and weave relationships.

We will replace the virtual world with technological tools for here and now. For the reality from which, once we are again trapped in the metal crowd on the road, the race for time, chasing of quotas in the office, and the hustle and bustle of school hallways, get the strength and will to not only survive, but to live.

Glamping with Occupancy?

What is glamping? Part 1

GLAMPING – a word that arose a little over a decade ago and has experienced its boom in the last four years. Of course, this has also resulted in a lot of wrong or, rather, superficial interpretations of this word, as well as improper uses in terms of substance and concept.

This word is all too often used (misused) for marketing purposes, so it’s worth being cautious when a particular destination uses the term glamping when addressing its potential guests.

Glamping is most often understood as a way of vacationing or short breaks which are becoming more and more sought after and desired. At first glance, we find it absolutely relevant that it is glamorous camping because the word is made up of these two words, but genuine glamping is something completely different.

Most often, “glamping” is offered as a somewhat different, we could also say stylishly designed or reworked tent, yurt, tree house, igloo, retro caravan, Volkswagen van, barrel, and we could keep naming more.

Of course, each of these accommodation units or holiday units can contain some glamour that can be conjured up with details and location, but unfortunately, the main components that justify or better represent the foundation and the basis of glamping are missing.

Guests to Olimia are also granted free access to a nearby waterpark and are given unlimited bathing time at a partner wellness spa.

Near to the culturally rich town of Maribor in Slovenia’s wine region, Chateau Ramsak is situated on a beautiful vineyard. Guests can enjoy endless samples of homemade wine in their countryside mansion where they claim to have the oldest wine press in Europe.

Camping isn’t allways according to your expectation

Camping isn’t always what you dream it up to be. Sometimes you have to learn to survive in nature by setting up your own tents, cooking your own food (which might include hunting or fishing for it), getting your own w

Fast forward a few years to the concept of glamping: glamorous camping, where someone does everything to make sure your crew is comfortable while camping. Trade the muddy ground for a soft bed — what more could you ask for?

A Unique Glamping Resort

Imagine staying in a luxurious glamping resort located on the abandoned hangar rooftop. At the nearby Nordisches Zentrum Loipe Goms, you will find perfectly groomed cross-country ski runs, winter hiking trails and a natural ice rink. On top of that, modern hygge interiors. Sounds amazing? You can experience that and even more at Hans&Ulrich!

How have you come up with the idea of a glamping resort?

Glamping is our personal lifestyle. I have always reached for the stars to have my own “bubbles” and host happy guests in them. In addition to FDomes geodesic domes, we also have one more summer glamping, an original Swiss chalet. We have always wanted to make the glamping a really unique experience.

What made you decide to place your resort on the abandoned hangar rooftop?

This is a really unusual location. Because nobody did it before and because of the unique location. Everybody can see it and up there you are closer to the stars. What else can you wish for a place? I was lucky the owner of the hangar (by the way his name is hans-ulrich) was enthusiastic about my idea. My thanks to him give me the idea to name the bubbles Hans & Ulrich.

Why did you decide to choose geodesic domes for your glamping? “

We have very strong winters and we were looking for a safe and stable mobile home. Currently, we are the only ones in the area with geodesic domes.

Reasons to Invest

How to invest in glamping? Is setting up a glamping business worth considering? Read the article to find out about the great potential of glamping investments!

1. Invest with peace of mind and minimum risk

Glamping are designed with self-assembly in mind. It also means that you can easily build up and dismantle the structures on your own and move effortlessly to another location (e.g. when you see better business prospects on another site). If you don’t want to assemble the domes yourself, any local crew will be able to help you using our manuals. You can keep the domes up all year round, and there is no need to take them down off-season, even if they are unoccupied. The domes are also easy maintenance – power-wash them once a few months to keep the domes clean. Thanks to an expected lifespan of 15 years and up to 5 years warranty on dome components, you can be 100% sure the investment is wise and risk-free.

 2. Expand your hospitality business to reach a new group of Guests

Glamping attracts new types of customers, including those who like the idea of staying outdoors but don’t want to give up the comforts. According to a KOA report on camping trends, nearly all Millennials and Gen X’ers (93%) wanted to try this new type of unique accommodation in 2019. If your target group so far has been families with children, there is no need to change the profile of your business entirely. If your goal is to attract more couples or remote workers interested in  spots, the solution is to invest in the glamping domes. To provide the best hospitality services to your guests, make sure to place the domes in the secluded part of your land to avoid communication noise.

3.Achieve higher income per night

Well equipped glamping domes have one of the highest prices per night among all types of outdoor accommodation. Usually, the geodesic domes also provide higher standards than traditional camping cabins or yurts because of the high-quality materials, eye-catching interior design and modern amenities. Sleeping in the geodesic dome is a unique experience, and tourists are willing to pay more to try it.

4. Extend your season or operate all year round in any climate and any weather

structures are 100% weatherproof and well insulated. Our glamping tents offer exceptionally low thermal transmittance (U-Value) of 0.25 W/m²K (walls & ceiling), resulting in minimum running costs of heating and air-conditioning. With the high interest in the unique glamping resorts among travelers and the possibility to operate all year round, the return on investment (ROI) can be even faster.

5. Become a glamping leader in your region

Offer unique accommodation before your guests choose to go glamping at another resort. “People are much more willing to choose glamping over camping and even hotels if the option is available. It’s just not an option in a lot of destinations yet. Weekend getaways and experiential travel vacations that are easily accessible is a huge opportunity” – Ryan Hutchings, General Manager of glamping.com. Enter the industry while the glamping trend is thriving to make it even more profitable for you. The sooner you realize the investment potential of the glamping industry and start your own glamping business, the stronger your position on the market will be!

6. Get 100% Return On Investment within one season

In 2017 our Customers reported on average revenues of 22.000 – 32.000 EUR per dome unit. Many of our customers achieve complete ROI within the first season of running the business! Moreover, many clients choose lease financing* to maximise the investment potential. It allows them to purchase multiple dome structures and expect significant earnings in the coming years.
(*lease financing may not be available in all countries).

7. Build anywhere, use unused land

Assemble our geodesic domes in places where building traditional constructions is impossible. FDomes Glamping has been engineered and TÜV Certified to withstand violent winds exceeding 11 Beaufort (117 km/h). We offer a Heavy Duty version designed for 200 km/h wind loads (hurricane force) for sites prone to extreme sustained wind speeds or heavy snowfalls. FDomes products comply with existing EU & US structural safety norms & regulations. All raw materials used for production are certified for fire-retardancy and sourced from industry-leading European suppliers.

8. Add the “Wow factor” to your camping site

Because of their unconventional shape and unique, airy interiors, geodesic domes stand out among other types of tents and outdoor accommodation. They are also very “Instagrammable”, meaning that your guests will surely be eager to promote your camping site on social media showing their stay at your glamping stop. On top of that, FDomes quirky look generates frequent attention from international media. Many of our customers’ projects were featured in national and international publications incl. Lonely Planet, Forbes, Bloomberg, Wallpaper Magazine, Business Insider, The Guardian, UK’s Channel 4, and many more.

 9. Create an event venue using our bigger domes and diversify your business

Glamping weddings, glamping corporate events, glamping Christmas parties, fitness training camps, yoga retreats… there are dozens of new opportunities for outdoor businesses to diversify their current business and attract new clients. Starting a Glamping Business

Why have you decided to set up a glamping business?

It’s something we have always had a desire to do, we just didn’t have the right site. Then we bought Abbey Farm and it seemed perfect.

What made you choose FDomes Glamping as the accommodation type in your resort?

We had admired FDomes for some time, the design and what they offer really fit in well with the luxury brand we wanted to promote.

What makes your glamping special?

It’s the luxury element. We provide welcome Hampers, include a wood-fired hot tub, offer food packages and our own Abbey Farm Gin.

You offer many packages, such as a Pamper Pack, a Pizza Kit or Drinks Packages.  How did you come up with such an idea of diversifying your offer?

We looked at what else was on offer and spotted a gap in the market.

What led you to introduce an offer for people with dogs?

We love dogs and we know they are a big part of people’s families, so we wanted people to be able to holiday with their four-legged friends as well.

Do your guests often visit you with their pets?

I would say it’s 50/50.

Couple Gateway for Adults

In a series of interviews with owners and managers of glamping sites, today we are happy to share a chat with James Hutchings. James and Fiona are the owners of Redhill Holidays in Whitbourne, England. The resort is a stunning place, successful business and a winner of Channel 4’s ‘Four In A Bed’ program.

How have you come up with the idea of setting up a glamping resort?

Fiona and I were originally looking to buy a property with holiday lets but we couldn’t find anything that was quite right. Then we came across Redhill which was a 6-acre property with stunning views across the Herefordshire countryside which is some of the UK’s most breathtaking, unspoilt scenery. What a perfect place to create our own resort rather than try to find something readymade.

Why have you decided on geodesic domes?

We went to the glamping show at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire to see the various glamping units on offer, we also spent hours trawling the internet to make the right decision on which glamping unit would be perfect for the resort we were creating. The view was the most important aspect so we wanted a unit which would show off the panoramic views. We also wanted to create a unique environment so choices of interior to create a peaceful relaxing ambiance was important. Finally, we wanted a unit which could allow an all year round comfort so we wanted a log burner which could be used safely to create a romantic atmosphere on those cold nights.

Your Guests can choose between the geodesic domes, different kinds of tents, Hobbit pods and more. Why have you decided to diversify your offer?

Camp Katur: All of our accommodation has been deliberately sited to take advantage of the huge amount of space and privacy our estate affords. The inclusion of our new geodomes gives our customer the opportunity to experience being close to nature with all of the home comforts afforded by FDomes’ best quality products. Our two Interior Modules upon Chestnut Hill have allowed families to reconnect and relax from their own private deck with hot tub, on what is the most idyllic of beauty spots, stargaze on the mezzanine bed and simply be a family away from the stress of the last year.

What do your Guests love the most about Redhill Holidays?

Our guests’ feedback has been instrumental in creating and developing Redhill to what it is today. The Guests like the privacy, the peace and tranquility but above all the ability to spend quality time together. They like to be left alone but someone is always on hand, if required, to help with the little issues and queries that will always come up. They enjoy the feel of the great outdoors but without losing the luxury that a 5-star hotel can offer.
